my mother’s black Christmas angels

yesterday i began a photo album as joking documentation of my mother’s addiction to black Christmas angels. while it’s been a good laugh and has prompted my mother to finally say that 46 black angels may be as many as our house can hold, the album has also brought a number of people out from the woodwork, saying, “my mother has been dying to get some black angels for our house. where does your mother find them?”

i asked my mom, and i gave answers to those who asked, but i am still struck by the fact that there is a real demand for something that in my house has been taken for granted and even treated as superfluous. so i decided to share the wealth with tumblrville, in case any of you, or your mothers, have been dreaming of a black Christmas :)

she stays on the lookout pretty much everywhere she goes, and observes that high quality angels seem to be getting more scarce, but her most frequent suppliers have been:

Walmart

Michaels

Amazon.com

JoAnn Fabrics

The Dollar Store (seriously)

Burlington Coat Factory

…and she’s gotten at least two from Rite Aid.

I’m sure this not an exhaustive list. Have you spotted a beautiful black angel somewhere?

if the FLOTUS had natural hair….
this would drive the wingnuts crazy, but golly if ‘frotoshopped Michelle isn’t gorgeous.

Every time you’re thinking, “Oh, the Wild West sounds fun,” all I can think is, “You know what would be dope? Hanging out somewhere where I’m not encumbered by all these rights.

because i don’t have enough to be angry about.

best passive-aggressive note ever. happy black history month!

oh my goodness, I am dying laughing.

Oh man, guys.

My meme may be taking off.

And then get to meme-ing!

Victim-blaming Middle Class White Man Quickmeme Template

Inspired by Gene Marks’ “If I Was a Poor Black Kid” article in Forbes, Victim-blaming Middle Class White Man takes it upon himself to solve the ills of the world by imagining how he would overcome trying situations. Although he tends to have a better grasp of the subjunctive mood than Marks, VbMCWM shares his naivete, condescension, and lack of empathy in his neatly packaged theories on pulling oneself up by one’s bootstraps. How quaint!

p.s. yes…i made this up.
